The 45-minute Sunday school class — page-by-page workflow

After seven years and roughly 350 Sunday morning classes, here's the rhythm that consistently worked best:

Friday afternoon (15 minutes of prep)

1. Open the lectionary or curriculum calendar. Identify the Bible passage assigned for Sunday.
2. Search for the matching story page on this site. Use the search bar or browse by Bible book.
3. Click "Download Full PDF (A4)" — or "US Letter" if you're in the US — to get the 6-scene bundle.
4. Print one copy per child plus 3 extras for siblings who show up unexpectedly. Standard 75-gsm copier paper.
5. Slide the pages into manila folders with the child's name on the front. The folder becomes their take-home folder.

Sunday 9:00 AM (welcome + setup, 5 minutes)

As kids arrive, they grab their folder from the front table. The first page from the bundle is already on top — that's the introductory scene. While they get settled, they color the first scene. This soaks up the inevitable arrival-time chaos so you can welcome each child individually.

Sunday 9:05 AM (the lesson, 30 minutes)

Six scenes × 5 minutes per scene = 30 minutes. Each 5-minute block:

1. Read the corresponding Bible verse aloud (printed on the bottom of each page in the Sunday school variant). 30 seconds.
2. Tell the story for that scene in your own words. Don't read from a script — kids tune out scripts. Tell it like you'd tell a friend. 90 seconds.
3. Ask the printed discussion question ("What do you think Noah felt while the rain started?"). 60 seconds.
4. Color, while you walk around the room answering individual questions and praising specific artistic choices ("Look at how carefully you colored the giraffe!"). 90 seconds.
5. Transition to the next scene by collecting the finished page and handing out the next. Don't rush — let the slowest colorer have time. 30 seconds.

Sunday 9:35 AM (wrap-up + prayer, 5 minutes)

• Each child holds up their completed 6-page booklet.
• One brief recap: "Today we learned that God kept his promise to Noah. The rainbow reminds us that God always keeps his promises."
• Closing prayer.
• Send the folders home with a sticky note for parents: "Ask [child's name] about Noah's Ark this week. They can show you the pictures they made."

This is the rhythm. Six scenes, five minutes each, 45 minutes total. It works for ages 5–10 reliably. For ages 3–5, slow it down to four scenes × 7 minutes; for ages 10+, add discussion depth.

What makes our Sunday school pages different

Q: How do I print A4 pages on US Letter paper without distortion? A4 (210 × 297 mm) is slightly narrower and longer than US Letter (8.5 × 11 in).
